FOUR & MORE: Best Inland Area WRs
PREP FOOTBALL WIDE RECEIVERS 2012
1. Dane Futrell, Nuevo Nuview Bridge – The Future. This 6-foot-1, 178-pound burner led the Inland Area with 20 receiving TDs in just nine games for the eight-man Knights, a CIF quarterfinalist last season. Futrell, who averaged nearly 19 yards per catch, had 12 catches for 256 yards and six TDs vs. Oro Grande Riverside Prep in Week 7.
2. Khalil Sharpe, Murrieta Mesa — The other half of the pass-catch combo that should catapult the Rams to into contention in the Southwestern League, this 6-foot-3, 170-pounder made 59 catches for more than 1,000 yards as a junior. His 15-catch, 230-yard performance in a Week 9 loss to Temecula Valley stands out as one of the most unheralded performances in 2011.
3. Jack Austin, Chino Hills — A physically imposing presence at 6-foot-4, 205 pounds, Austin has scouts drooling after catching 62 balls and scoring 11 times as a junior in 2011. He had five games with more than 100 receiving yards for the Huskies, who lost 39-38 to Rancho Cucamonga in an Inland Division 1st Round game.
4. Chase Krivishae, Corona Centennial – The only player on this list with title game experience, Krivishae (5-foot-10, 175 pounds) had five catches for 56 clutch yards as he and then QB Hayden Gavett combined several times down the stretch in the Huskies’ narrow loss to Vista Murrieta.
AND MORE: Jermel Walker, Rancho Cucamonga — A steady performer as a junior, this 6-foot-1, 175-pounder averaged 22.5 yards per catch for the Cougars in 2011. He never caught more than five passes in a single game, however, a number that’ll improve this season.
………………….K.J. Young, Perris Citrus Hill – The more utilized in a talented Hawks receiving corps, this 6-foot-1, 185-pounder caught 47 passes — 10 for touchdowns — and had four consecutive 100-yard games to end 2011.
………………….John Goodman, Hemet West Valley – He may be just 5-foot-6 and 160 pounds but Goodman had 50 receptions for 12 TDs and nearly 800 yards for the Mustangs as a junior last season.
………………….Dorion Barnett, Corona Santiago – Has great size (6-foot-4, 205 pounds) and had a terrific junior season (46 catches, 742 yards, 6 TDs). Can he and QB Michael Darr connect often enough to be a threat in the Big VIII?
