Prep Preview: Baseline League
The Baseline League had two teams in the semifinals in its first season in the CIF-Southern Section Inland Division. That statement stands firmly on its own.
Upland (12-1), or “The ‘U’” as it also apparently likes to be called, ran up against Vista Murrieta in the Final Four and were swept aside despite having scored 110 points in two playoff games to that point. Senior QB Nate Romine should build of a nearly flawless 2011, and an athletic core could get them to the title game this year.
Rancho Cucamonga (11-2) lived by the seat of its pants in last year’s playoffs, winning 1st Round and Quarterfinal Round games by a total of FOUR points. The Cougars have speed to burn. Is there a QB to get spread it around?
Etiwanda (6-4) won its last two games of the season and return outstanding receiver Jordan Villamin, who has committed to Oregon State. The Eagles play at Corona Centennial in a non-league game in Week 5.
Los Osos (6-5) was one-and-done in last year’s playoffs but have a boat-load of returning players, including WR Victor Boldin, another Oregon State commit. The Grizzlies play Redlands and Norco in Weeks 2 and 3, respectively.
Alta Loma (2-8) and Glendora (3-7) look to flip spots in 2012. Or maybe both will go winless.
